Fletcher Hanks created some of the most insane comics ever made in the Golden Age. I discovered him through the Stupid Comics website, his heroic Superman-ripoff creations Stardust and Fantomah are capable of doing anything with their science magic and are completely immune to harm. They punish evildoers with ironic or poetically just fates in the end, but inevitably they do not act fast enough and scores of innocents suffer or die. The art is ugly and distorted, but in a good way, with eyeblistering colors and obvious frequent tracing. I bought both the collected editions of Hanks' work, "I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets!" and "You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation!" and eventually decided I needed a Stardust figure in my life.

I started with an X-Men Gladiator figure, his weird musculature looks a lot like Fletcher Hanks' art. I cut off his mohawk and resculpted hair and a higher forehead. His skirt is made from toothpaste tube attached with a peg through a hole I drilled in his back. I used an ink pen to do his eyes and the details to try and give him an illustrated look. The original figure has a power-punch action feature which still works after all the silver paint I gummed into the gear, which is pretty awesome.
