There's a bittersweet, very name-droppy story behind this figure. A radio DJ on whose show I'm a guest got the gig to go to L.A. for the press junket for the new Tomb Raider movie. I asked if he could bring along my Lara figure to get a photo of Alicia Vikander holding it. Alicia Vikander ended up keeping my custom, but there's no photo of her holding it. So this sounds like something I made up to explain why I left the figure somewhere, and I'm a little bummed out about it but hey, hopefully she keeps it next to her Oscar or something.
This is a replacement for that figure, and is almost entirely the same recipe, apart from some of the accessories which I didn't have duplicates of. WWE diva AJ Lee base with Mickie James legs and a Kitty Pryde head, with lots and lots of sculpting. Created the bow and quiver from scratch: The bow is made of twisty wire sculpted over with epoxy, while the quiver is made from strips of craft pleather. The pickaxe was made from several knives from Kotobukiya accessory kits cobbled together with some ProCreate. The belt and holster was made from craft pleather, the rope bundle was made from thread and the walkie-talkie was a Stargate accessory with some sculpt added. Thanks for looking!
Overall great job jedd. The kitty pride face really matches the Lara from 2013 game. Nice touch on accuracy and take pride that some one famous own a piece of your art. Love her in Ex Machina
Thanks Vic! I was looking through the heads I had available when I was making this the first time and Kitty Pryde looked like a close match. Alicia Vikander is indeed amazing in Ex Machina!
Thanks! It took quite a bit of effort, I ended up snapping off one of the pegs on the Mickie James figure. You have to crack open the top of the leg, then glue it back after the transplant.
Thanks! Yeah, I'm bummed too, I thought that if she kept it at least there'd be a photo of her holding it, but I think her management were very strict about personal photos
Love it !!!! I work in the T.v.-movie biz as well and I know that it is a huge milestone to a actor to be immortalized into a action figure. I have been trying to improve my skills to tackle a project for a actor who's movie never made it to the toy shelf. .......oh ya the figure is awesome !!!!! No wonder why she wanted it !!!!
Thanks Edgy! Bringing along action figures of actors to interviews has kinda become my gimmick. Sometimes it's tricky to get them to hold it because management might object, but the actors themselves are typically quite amused.
I started playing this game just a few days ago...and yeah, perfect custom of this better looking reboot! like red wolf I really love the accessories and parts, fabulous work!
Thanks Marz! As a classic Lara fan, I was very sceptical about the reboot, especially since it was originally descibed as being survival horror, but I wound up really enjoying the game and this new version of Lara.
Excellent all around Craft Work on this Croft Custom Jedd! From the parts choice to the custom accessories and awesome Sculpt-work! No better compliment can be given since this Custom's twin was kept by the actress it was inspired after!
