So, a few months ago I was looking through parts to see what I could make. I recalled that I have 2/3 of the parts to make another Ultimate Green Goblin thanks to the 1.5 wave, which had Toxin, Spider-Girl, and Boomerang replace Carnage, Black Cat, and Ultimate Beetle, respectively. I also had a piece from an extra movie Electro, because when I ordered these sets from Dorkside Toys, Electro was also included. After much thought and searching through the original Marvel Universe Handbook from back in the early 80's (in Essential reprint form), I found and recalled the character Man-Bull. I remembered really liking his appearance in Incredible Hulk #341 by Peter David and Todd McFarlane, and I liked that he was a Daredevil villain, someone that I feel is far too underrepresented in the Marvel Legends line. I liked his slight obscurity, plus he already had the horns sculpted for me! I set about ordering the extra arm and leg I needed from eBay. I ended up putting this guy on hold to think about just exactly how I wanted to tackle him. I decided to do my usual and combined a few of his different looks over the years into one unified form that would still leave him instantly recognizable. Recipe: Head, arms, legs, torso: Ultimate Green Goblin Build-A-Figure I settled on using an X-acto knife to slice all of his spikes off (which I plan to use for a future custom). I also disassembled him, shaved the joints down to avoid paint rub, and painted the articulated areas before reassembling him. I heated his head with a hair dryer, reshaped the horns, and then ran the head under some cold water so the horns would retain their new shape. I then sculpted fur with Milliput and a toothpick over all the areas where the spikes had been cut off. I also sliced his ears off and shaved down the bumps on his head. I then sculpted one of his shorter haircuts to preserve articulation and to prevent any of the hair from cracking off. I also sculpted fur on his chest, shoulders, hands, feet, and the sides of his calves as well. I painted his skin and hair/fur a skin tone, before mixing a darker shade to dry brush onto the hair/fur. I then made a black wash with I painted over the hair/fur, as well as his skin to bring out some of the finer details (his chest has these lines already sculpted onto it that look like little hairs when given a wash treatment). I painted his eyes yellow, the irises red, and the pupils black, all of which was glossy to give it a shiny look, which saved me from painting any white dots since he now has them naturally. I painted his gums pink with a red dry brushing, and I gave his teeth a yellow dry brush before giving his entire mouth a black wash to make it look more disgusting (this is a guy who isn't brushing his teeth after consuming fresh kills, after all). I also painted his eyebrows black. I then gave his horns a coat of white paint, too. Now I not only have a new, obscure Daredevil and Hulk villain for the collection, but an extra Build-A-Figure (which means I should have about 10 or so before the year is over, now), which I promptly put together after finishing him. This is definitely my largest custom to date, and he was loads of fun to create. While working on Man-Bull, I also realized that I've been slowly, albeit unintentionally, creating a Daredevil BAF Series, with Man-Bull here the BAF, of course (a series which currently includes Grey Black Widow, Mr. Fear, a kitbashed Matt Murdock not seen here; I could also include Sin-Eater and trench coat Punisher, as well). I could easily see myself making more Daredevil villains and supporting characters as time goes on to round out a full Man-Bull BAF Series. ![]() |
