Okay, here goes. I have recently been working on a fan fiction titled "There Are Always Possibilities..." in which classic Earth-1 Superboy is slingshot from alternate Earth to alternate Earth, during which time he meets various alternate versions of himself. This eighth figure I have dubbed Earth-901 Superboy...I haven't yet figured out what his back story is just yet, but I thought that I would share his design with you. His costume and symbol were partially inspired by the costume of one of the alternate Superboys that artist Kevin Maguire drew on the cover of "The Adventures of Superboy" Special from 1992.
To do this figure, I first took a DC Universe Classics Signature Freddy Freeman figure and, using the boil and pop method, removed the head, arms, and and hands. Next, I repeated the boil and pop method process on a DC Universe Classics Young Justice series Superboy and removed the arms and hands. I then took the Superboy arms and attached the Freddy Freeman hands and then attached these arms to the Freddy Freeman body. With the arms now attached, I took my Dremel and carefully sanded off the Captain Marvel style bow/buttons. Once the bow/buttons were removed and the cape was smooth, I commenced a full repaint on the cape with Testors Model Masters Guards Red, Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow, and Testors Model Masters Gold, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the Flat Clear had dried, I used a small amount of brush and roller cleaner to remove the Freddy Freeman lightning bolt symbol. With the lightning bolt symbol now removed, I used my Dremel to sand down the ball joint attached to the Freddy Freeman figure's neck into a cylindrical post. Once the cylindrical post was formed, I next used my Dremel to partially hollow out the head of a DC Direct Crisis on Infinite Earths Series 3 Earth-Prime Superboy. Next, I mixed up a small batch of Milliput and jammed it into the newly formed cavity inside the head, and, while the Milliput was still soft, I jammed the cylindrical post attached to the neck of the Freddy Freeman figure into the Milliput to create a small hole in the center of the head cavity and let it dry. While the Milliput dried, I commenced a full repaint of the body with Testors Acryl Bright Blue for the bodysuit, Testors Model Masters Guards Red for the boots, Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow for the belt sash, and a home brewed flesh tome for the neck and hands that closely matched the skin tone of the Superboy head. Once all of the paint on the body had fully dried, I gave the figure two generous coats of Flat Clear. When the Flat Clear fully dried, I glued the Superboy head in place atop the Freddy Freeman body. Once the head was solidly glued in place, I slapped on new chest and cape symbols with a little glue (both symbols were made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...however, unlike previous hand drawn symbols I had done before, these are drawn to more closely approximate the square Superman/boy symbol that Kevin Maguire designed for the cover of the 1992 Superboy Special), and TA-DA...Earth-901 Superboy as he appears in my fan fiction, "There Are Always Possibilities..."!!!
Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.
