Hi everyone. About 2 weeks ago, I decided to take the plunge & do my own 1/12 scaled battle damaged building/street diorama. I bought like five 24x24 1 inch thick pink foam boards at Home Depot & started going to work. I wanted to do a comic based "days of future past" type street dio where the Sentinels have been going at it with their mission to exterminate all metahumans/mutants. So lot's of damage in my building & the street as well. I made 4 different buildings that ranged in hgt from 24' to 21' & were 8' deep. The table I have em on is 6ft long by 31" wide so it's a pretty good city block type setup. I also used quite a lot of balsa wood, for the window frames. I used acrylic paints for the buildings. I also made sidewalks for all the buildings as well. I used 1/2 thick foam board for the streets & just spray painted it matt Black. Thanks for looking & critiques welcome.
Much appreciated Vic/KoolMisfit. I worked about 10hrs a day on this for 2 weeks. I tried to add as much details as my 1st time rookie dio making butt could think of. Gonna start on my next building dio tomorrow or Monday.
Thanks guys. Those dio artists you mentioned are the main reason I decided to take a shot at building this street dio. I watched all their vids to get a great idea on how to do this. Those guys are outstanding pros. I figure we're never gonna get these type of dios from Hasbro so might as well make my own. Makes taking action pics of my ML figures look cooler with this dio as the background.
Doh ! Looks like my old neighborhood in Detroit. Seriously though, this is really great ! Working on my second dio ( the 42 prison featured in the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes show) and I've been checking out some of the best dio artist like Al Figures, Henry 715 and Mechbay just to name a few for inspiration, tutorials and tips. Look them up on Youtube and Instagram if you get the chance. You may find it informative.
