I was thinking of villains Hasbro could make for the Marvel Legends line that still needed made or remade when I came across a cool picture of Baron Strucker flanked by some Hydra subordinates. I had a Ghost Rider from the Rhino Series that I didn't need thanks to the recent biker figure that came out earlier this year, and had been trying to think of someone to make him into for a while, now. I thought this look for Baron Strucker would be perfect for reusing that Ghost Rider figure. I then discovered that eBay had some cheap, broken Star-Lord figures which I needed for a few parts and decided to go for a meshing of said parts. Recipe: Head: Bullseye (Man-Thing Series) Collar, calves down, lower ab crunch piece and upper thighs: Ghost Rider (Rhino Series) Satan Claw/right forearm, hand: Daredevil (Netflix, Man-Thing Series) Sword: Shatterstar Power effect: Shocker Everything else: Star-Lord (EE box set) I sanded down all the appropriate joints. I then resculpted part of Daredevil's glove to make it look more like the Satan Claw (where would Strucker be without it? I knew he needed to have one). I sculpted a monocle on Bullseye's head based on the '66 Batman Penguin figure's sculpt (I didn't want a flat, white disc). I then filled in the forehead target and missing tooth before Dremeling and X-acto knifing in and sculpting some character appropriate scars on the face (I used some Steranko and Byrne artwork for the scars' placement). I also shaved down the spikes on Shatterstar's sword. I had to Dremel the inside of the Ghost Rider collar to fit around Strucker's neck I really loved the cartoon "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" and decided to go with yellow for Strucker's boots, regular glove, and belt and trim as opposed to all green (it's also where I got the idea for a sword). I painted the belt buckle and buttons on his yellow glove and belt silver. I painted the rest of his outfit light green before giving it a dark green wash. I painted the Satan Claw red before going with a dark red wash to bring out those finer details. I painted the monocle yellow before giving it a thin layer of gold. I painted the teeth white and gave the scars a pink wash (made from flesh tone and a little red) after having repainted the head a new, matching flesh tone. I made the symbol on his chest by printing out the very symbol from the artwork that inspired this custom, wrapped it in packing tape, cut it out, glued it in place and then gave it a matte coating of Modpodge to eliminate the shine. I had an extra Shocker effect, which I thought really helped to display the awesome power of his destructive Satan Claw. I'm quite pleased to finally give my three comic Hydra goons their true leader at long last (it only took over four years!), not to mention Nick Fury his arch enemy. ![]() |
