The M577 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) is a troop transport used by the Colonial Marine Corps in the Aliens movie.
Designed as a multi-role vehicle within a lightly-equipped rapid-reaction force, the M577 is mobile and well armed. The APC is a beast of a machine that barrels onto the surface of LV-426 and functions as a mobile command post for the Colonial Marines.
This was a project that I had in mind for a long time. I started to collect materials like my LED TV box, but the real trigger was to find the right wheels. The wheels should be lighter enough to not damage the carton board structure and with 7 inch size. Finally I found a Mega Bloks jeep that matched the specifications.
Most of this vehicle was done using recycled materials like carton board and plastic warning signs to cover it. Six bottles of Tamiya spray paint were used (this was the higher material cost of this project). And other materials like mosquito net, tic tac boxes, galvanized wire, markers, free sample perfume bottles, different kinds of cable, playmobil parts, old computer circuits, a hair gel bottle, windshield wipers and many pieces that I collected during the process. (the garbage of a man is the treasure of other).
The main door opens and close like the movie. The plasma cannon in the ceiling and the machine gun in the front rotates as well. There's a formal lighting system for the front lights and the ceiling lantern. I made the plasma cannon rails with windshield wipers, the flexibility of this material allows me to remove and put the rails easily using magnets and gives me access to all the vehicle's interior. This vehicle is 35 inches long, 12.5 inches high and 14.0 inches wide.
During the last four months, I dedicated most of my free time to accomplish this project, I am very pleased with the final result. Hope you enjoy it.
