With bigger budgets and a broader storytelling scope, the Star Trek reboots could take some chances with costuming. The third entry in the “Kelvin Universe” 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, went to the extreme, creating variant Starfleet uniforms for the officers and crew of the star base Yorktown and one of the boldest designs: the away team suits. These high tech heavy duty blue uniforms sported by Kirk and Chekov, feature the department color on the shoulders and are designed for all environments. In all honesty when I first saw these designs I hated them, but they have grown into my favorite new look of the whole series.

Also pictured are the new duty tunics, featuring a higher tighter collar and a darker accent strip under the arm. Head is a sculpt from a Star Wars figure, with sculpted hair, and the blue away uniform figure is a kitbash. Figures were completed in Fall 2016.
